This artisan Tampesta Albarin is from the DO Tierra de Leon in North Western Spain. It’s a lovely full flavoured wine with body and good mouth feel, having been aged on the lees. Very fresh and natural on the long finish, made by expert Galician winemaker Luis Buitrón, vice-president of the Spanish Federation of Winemakers and president of the Association of Oenologists of Galicia. This vintage is excellent once again.

Well here Rosa has made a superb Verdejo from organically grown grapes. This “Julia” has now been rebranded this vintage under Malcaracter’s name where the wine is actually made, and presentation has changed – we don’t have an up to date image as yet. They are basically all working together producing a small selection of superior wines and it made sense for them to have the “Julia” under the Malcaracter brand.

The wine itself is of course the same excellent quality and is delicious and highly recommended. Low in sulphites so a great healthy lifestyle option.

The Fledge & Co is the fabulous winemaking venture from Margaux Nel (younger daughter of Carel Nel and winemaker at the family winery, Boplaas) and her husband Leon Coetzee. They handcraft tiny quantities of different wines from specific vineyard sites all over the Cape winelands. Often using exciting “experimental” techniques like extended skin contact, whole bunch pressing etc. They travel 20,000km to hand harvest the grapes from 35 different vineyards.

This “Fume Blanc” is a blend of hand harvested Sauvignon grapes from two sites, one in Stellenbosch overlooking False Bay and the other up at Gansbaai north of Cape Town on the Atlantic coast. It was both barrel fermented and barrel matured, then bottled unfined and unfiltered.

This is a complex wine, a big hit with their customers in South Africa and clearly well liked by Tim Atkin MW too. Big and round for a Sauvignon with bags of flavour, yet gentle natural acidity. This is a sophisticated wine suited to buttered seafood.

This Cabernet Franc from Mauricio Lorca is great value for money, like all Mauricio Lorca’s Fantasia range. The vineyards are in Vista Flores in the Uco Valley, regarded as the best area in all Argentina for growing high quality grapes. Mauricio is one of Mendoza’s best winemakers and consistently produces delicious wines at affordable prices.

This is 100% Cabernet Franc. 30% was aged in oak while the remaining portion was left unoaked to retain the purity of fruit.

I love Cabernet Franc and this is a great example for anybody who maybe has never had a single varietal Cab Franc before and wants to try one. Red cherry and raspberry fruit with just a hint of oak. Quite full and round in the mouth but light and fresh with good acidity. Lovely on it’s own or due to it’s good acidity will pair with roast meats or BBQ.
