We now specialise in wines from Argentina and South Africa as they are producing truly world class wines, at very reasonable prices compared to old world equivalents. Cheap factory produced wines from both these countries have damaged their respective reputations in the UK, but taste their best hand made wines and you’ll be amazed at the quality….and quickly converted.
We’ve got some very good wines from Italy too, from some of the country’s top producers like Zenato, La Scolca, Santa Margherita and St Michael Eppan. We also have a small selection of excellent boutique wines from various regions in Spain.

Sergio Zenato’s personal Riserva Amarone is something special. We’ve been stocking it for years and enjoyed many great vintages. It is the one wine we turn to when we decide to treat ourselves to a special wine. Sergio Zenato sadly passed away a few years back, so this wine is now made by his son Alberto. It is still extremely limited of course and made to honour the great Sergio Zenato who is one of the all time great exponents of Amarone.

This Syrah is something special!
Reminded me very much of Boekenhoutskloof Syrah which is now (well) over £40 per bottle. Very deep ruby in colour with big legs and a spicey nose. Big fruit flavours with high natural acidity giving a nice balanced weight on the palate. Super smooth with fruit, pepper and oak all in harmony.

This Garnacha S is fantastic. Partial carbonic maceration to avoid extracting too much tannin. Then fermented in both used 500ltr Fremch oak barrels and clay amphorae (with no skin contact, again minimising tannin extraction).
Then aged in both small oak casks and clay amphorae for 18 months, bottled and aged for a further 20 months prior to release.
Red fruit flavours with natural acidity giving it a lift (much in the style of good GSM or Chateauneuf), super smooth with a very long finish. Eduardo has achieved a great balance without the wine being “heavy”, keeping it in an elegant and classical style.

This Dona Mencia is very much in the style of top Pinot Noir, reminding me both of top Burgundy and top Elgin cool climate Pinot from South Africa. Atamisque Assemblage is a superb Bordeaux blend from Tupungato in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. This is the flagship wine of Bodega Atamisque and consists of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot
The winery was designed on a gravity system to avoid the use of pumps. The grapes from the low yielding vines were hand harvested into small boxes to avoid damage then underwent a rigorous selection at the winery. The wine was subsequently aged for 14 months in new French oak. It’s a full flavoured wine with power and elegance combined, very smooth with a very long finish.

Given the huge success with their flagship Gamka red, Margaux opted to produce a classic white Cape Blend too.
It’s a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Grenache blanc, Verdelho & Chenin Blanc from different regions – Elgin, Stellenbosch, Swartland and Klein Karro, so pretty much the entire Western Cape.
It was both barrel fermented and barrel matured on the lees for nine months. Bottled unfined and unflitered to retain the goodness.

La Scolca Black Label Gavi (also known as “Gigi”) is regarded as the ultimate Gavi – excepting La Scolca’s exclusive extremely limited D’Antan which is Black Label Gavi aged in tanks on the lees for a straight ten years! This Cabernet Franc is from Mauricio Lorca’s vineyards at Los Árboles, Tunuyán, Alto Valle de Uco, regarded as the best area in all Argentina for growing high quality grapes.
Handpicked into small trays, the best grapes were selected where 75% were fermented then aged in French oak and 25% in American oak. The resulting wine is fantastic and is presented in an impressive heavyweight bottle.
Deep ruby in colour with big black fruit and dark chocolate flavours with some vanillin oak coming through on the long finish. Full and round in the mouth.
Highly recommended.

Another beautiful wine from St Michael Eppan from their premium Sanct Valentin range. Normally I find Northern Italian chardonnays a little thin although I love the purity and clean feel. This one however is full bodied from being both barrel fermented (50% new, 50% used) and then further barrel aged for 11 months before bottling.
Pale gold in colour. Full of flavour with fruit and vanilla, rich and round with good mouthfeel. Beautifully balanced with integrated acidity and a long luscious finish. Superb.

Santa Margherita Chiaretto Stilrose is a superb rose for the discerning wine drinker. Pale salmon pink in colour, full and round in the mouth with complex concentrated flavours. Gentle acidity cleanses the palate on the long finish. This wine is the Italian equivalent to good Cotes de Provence, although this is comparatively low in sulphites too (which is very difficult to find in France). This is the Italian “Whispering Angel”.

This wine is quite something. I’m personally delighted to see a quality Argentine winemaker steering away from the recent trend to make savoury Bordeaux styled wines and head back to what I belive makes top Argentine wines unique – fruit and elegance combined.
