Sensational Wines

These are ideal gifts of course! Exclusive high quality wines make a great present. Many of these wines are exclusive to us in the UK

We have a lot of exceptional wines as we cherry pick the very best wines we discover, and the whole ethos of our business is about quality first.

We have far too many to list on one page though so please read through the various countries in the menu on the left of this page to find wines to suit your tastes. And please be open minded to new countries and regions, and new grape varieties as well, as there is a great deal to discover.

We now specialise in wines from Argentina and South Africa as they are producing truly world class wines, at very reasonable prices compared to old world equivalents. Cheap factory produced wines from both these countries have damaged their respective reputations in the UK, but taste their best hand made wines and you'll be amazed at the quality....and quickly converted.

We've got some very good wines from Italy too, from some of the country's top producers like Zenato, La Scolca, Santa Margherita and St Michael Eppan. We also have a small selection of excellent boutique wines from various regions in Spain.

We've put together an initial selection for you below, but there are many more on our site. So please read through the site at your leisure to discover some of the best wines available anywhere in the UK.

  1. Vallisto Extremo Felix Blend

The signature wine from Vallisto Extremo, this Felix is a blend of old vine Tannat and comparatively young Malbec, micro vinified in 225 litre oak casks!

Very deep ruby in colour. Big red fruit flavours, concentrated intense and very long. Big natural acidity, midweight on the palate and very smooth with a long finish.

This wine is quite something. I'm personally delighted to see a quality Argentine winemaker steering away from the recent trend to make savoury Bordeaux styled wines and head back to what I belive makes top Argentine wines unique - fruit and elegance combined.

Maquis is uniquely situated at the convergence of two rivers on clay, alluvial soils making it potentially the best site in Chile for Cabernet Frank which inspired them to make this stunning wine.

It's big and silky with red and black fruits with a light spice, then big vanilla coming through on the long finish.

Hand harvested and sorted grapes of course, the wine is made on their gravity flow system with as minimal intervention as possible. Aged in new French oak for 18 months.

Typically big and powerful, very natural in style. Big black fruit, velvet smooth. This is very good wine.

  7. The Fledge & Co Elgin Chardonnay O Velhapi

Special Offer - reduced from £22.99 to £15.95

Leon did us a deal as there was a mix up and he accidentally put this on our last order. Once you go above £20 for whites they sell much more slowly so in the interest of promoting this wine Leon has discounted it to us and we are discounting it further to make it affordable for all our regulars to treat themselves this Christmas!

This is the maiden release for this amazing new wine! A cool climate Chardonnay from a tiny vineyard in Elgin.

Leon produced just 1,320 bottles so we are extremely fortunate to have got a sizeable chunk of it!

Barrel fermented and barrel matured, made in a very Burgundian style for South Africa. This will rival fine Burgundy on quality and blow it away on rarity and price!

Surprisingly light in colour for a barrel fermented Chardonnay. Leon is quite right, this will benefit from some bottle ageing. It is very enjoyable now - I decanted it  to give it some air - but it will keep improving if you can lay it down for a few months (or even years).

It is full flavoured with some body and good mouthfeel. Very fresh and clean yet complex with a long finish.

All the Fledge wines are low sulphite, but we also wanted to mention that all the free SO2 readings were at bottling which will have reduced significantly since, so they will in fact be even lower than stated now.

    Highly recommended!

  9. The Fledge & Co Stellenbosch Cabernet

This is the maiden release of this new artisan wine which Leon just launched in Johannesburg at the end of August. He produced just 1880 bottles.

Leon says it is still tight so will benefit from decanting.

Delicious! Deep ruby opaque. Black fruit initially with some lighter red fruit toward the finish and integrated but noticeable oak. Good weight on the palate and super smooth. I decanted it to give it some air but I reckon it'd be a great wine to savour throughout an evening from freshly opened to fully aerated. Ideal in front of a log fire!

Santa Margherita Chiaretto Stilrose is a superb rose for the discerning wine drinker. Pale salmon pink in colour, full and round in the mouth with complex concentrated flavours. Gentle acidity cleanses the palate on the long finish. This wine is the Italian equivalent to good Cotes de Provence, although this is comparatively low in sulphites too (which is very difficult to find in France). No doubt there will be plenty more awards to follow as this wine is superb and is listed at some of South Africa's finest restaurants such as La Petit Colombe, Jardine, Shortmarket Club.

This Rainbows End Cabernet Franc is fantastic. Anton makes some of the best red wines in Stellenbosch and it is his Cabernet Franc that he is most proud of, believing his vineyards have the ideal microclimate for this variety. Anton also produces other excellent award winning red wines including blends, straight Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, plus a superb Merlot.

Very pure, medium bodied with red fruit flavours, very smooth and beautifully balanced. Subtle oak ageing for 12 months, then bottled unfiltered to retain all the flavour and natural goodness. Great wine.

  16. Atamisque Assemblage

Atamisque Assemblage is a superb Bordeaux blend from Tupungato in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. This is the flagship wine of Bodega Atamisque and consists of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot

The winery was designed on a gravity system to avoid the use of pumps. The grapes from the low yielding vines were hand harvested into small boxes to avoid damage then underwent a rigorous selection at the winery. The wine was subsequently aged for 14 months in new French oak. It's a full flavoured wine with power and elegance combined, very smooth with a very long finish.

Sergio Zenato's personal Riserva Amarone is something special. We've been stocking it for years and enjoyed many great vintages. It is the one wine we turn to when we decide to treat ourselves to a special wine. Sergio Zenato sadly passed away a few years back, so this wine is now made by his son Alberto. 18. Benegas Lynch Meritage

Benegas Lynch Meritage is quite simply one of Argentina's finest wines. A top Bordeaux blend to rival the very best from France. The first release to reach the UK was the 2004 and on first tasting I immediately bought the lot. I had never tasted anything so good from Argentina. It had great reviews from many critics being likened to a first growth Bordeaux. We have stocked all the successive vintages. The trend in Argentina now is to make their wines more European in style, a little leaner and tighter than previously which I can understand for some of the fruit bomb Malbecs, but it isn't needed here - this is Argentine Bordeaux already!

They are members of the elite Amarone producers consortium of course. This Amarone is made by Alberto Zenato who took over the winemaking from his father, the great Sergio Zenato, who sadly passed away a few years back.

In my opinion one of the best and most consistent Amarones on the market. Certainly my favourite out of all the big name Amarones out there. I've been drinking this wine for as long as I can remember and have never had a disappointing vintage. Consistently excellent every year!

  20. Bodegas El Porvenir - Laborum Malbec

World Malbec Masters 2021 - Gold Medal

El Porvenir Laborum Malbec is in my opinion one of Argentina's very best Malbecs with many awards to it's name. Pure fruit expression with superb balance and length. The natural sugar level of these grapes from the highest quality winery in the world gives this wine incredible sweet fruit on entry. This is tempered by the oak (14 months in new both French and American). It's super smooth, very well balanced with some vanilla coming through on the finish. If you want to see what all the fuss being made about Malbec is all about, this is the wine to go for!

  21. Bodegas El Porvenir - PORVENIR

Just moved onto the 2015 which is a blend of Malbec, Bonarda & Tannat

Only 8500 bottles produced. I'm a huge fan of El Porvenir - they're Laborum wines are stunning, and this is even better. It's a big, powerful wine but also structured and refined. El Porvenir is the highest quality winery in the world, and that altitude lends certain characteristics to the wines which make them some of the very best in Argentina. The altitude produces wines with sweet tannins and good body with plenty of acidity which is essential for making top quality balanced wines. The soil also contains greater mineral and salt content which influences the wine's flavour. It's a superb wine, with big fruit flavours, sweet tannins, backbone and structure. It's full in the mouth and wonderfully smooth with great overall balance. Fantastic wine!

4 1/2 stars Platter Wine Guide

     Tim Atkins – 91 points

Given the huge success with their flagship Gamka red, Margaux opted to produce a classic white Cape Blend too.

It's a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Grenache blanc, Verdelho & Chenin Blanc from different regions - Elgin, Stellenbosch, Swartland and Klein Karro, so pretty much the entire Western Cape.

It was both barrel fermented and barrel matured on the lees for nine months. Bottled unfined and unflitered to retain the goodness.

Pale gold in colour with wonderful clarity. Full in the mouth with a melange of fruit flavours, delicate balanced acidity and a very long bone dry finish. This is a great wine!

Lovely wine. Still young of course, with racy acidity and firm tannins. This wine will certainly reward some cellaring but can be enjoyed now if you give it time to breathe and open up. I recommend decanting, ideally for a couple of hours or more to get the best out of it as it really opens up to become super smooth with flavours of plum and damson. 28. Ver Sacrum Garnacha Gloria S

Ver Sacrum is a very exciting newcomer. It's basically Eduardo's garage and a rented warehouse. A small group of Vignerons returning the original Spanish grapes to Argentina, and making the wines as naturally as possible.

This wine is quite something, produced using partial carbonic maceration to avoid extracting too many tannins, and fermented partially in used oak and partially in clay amphorae. Then aged for 18 months in used oak and clay amphorae, with a further 20 months in bottle prior to release.

The result is a beautiful elegant wine, full, round and soft with a midweight palate. Good natural acidity and a very long finish. Very much like top Pinot Noir in style. This is a class bottle of wine for the discerning wine drinker.

96 / 100, James Suckling, Argentine Pushes the Limits, March 2018 (2016 vintage)

    90 / 100, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2016 vintage)

Every vintage of Benmarco Expesivo has been superb in my opinion. Not many people know about it, but it is one of my favourite wines. If you like good Bordeaux you will love this! The current trend in Argentina is to downplay the fruit a bit and make more European style wines, which I personally think is turning your back on one of Argentina's strongest selling points -  the high sugar levels and superb quality grapes derived from the consistent sunshine.

I find the recent vintage of Susana Balbo Brioso for example to be a little too austere for my taste. However this Benmarco Expressivo is still that typical Argentine blockbuster and I would choose this wine over Brioso every time. It's a beauty!

This is a blend of 65% Chardonnay, 13% Pinot Bianco and 22% Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) from a selection of 25 small vineyards all owned by Ca del Bosco. The vines are all low yielding, harvested by hand with individual bunches selected for this wine. After a unique washing procedure the grapes are vinified and matured in small oak casks for five months, The wine is then blended and aged on the lees for 48 months. There is then a special disgorgement process in an oxygen free zone, which means Ca Del Bosco don't need to add sulphites at this stage so it is a low sulphite wine. As the name suggests there is no "dosage", the process of adding a little sugar, so this wine is bone dry.
