Making A Purchase

Making a purchase could not be easier. Just browse our Catalog, and click on any items that you wish to buy and put them into the shopping cart. After you have finished your selection, click on “checkout” and you will be asked for a few details that we need to be able to satisfy the order. By law you must be 18 years old or older to use this site. If you are not at least 18 do not attempt to make a purchase.

At present we only supply to customers within the UK.

We accept Visa , Mastercard, Maestro and of course Paypal.

Availability
We endeavour to keep all our recommended wines in stock. However, as a busy retailer, it’s virtually impossible to keep the website updated in real time. In the unlikely event of a wine being out of stock, we will email you with the option to cancel your order, change the selected wine, or wait for it to come into stock, and of course provide a timescale. We do not publish vintages as we cannot keep up to date in real time. If you want to know the vintage of a specific wine drop us an email and we will check the wine and let you know. Please note the images used will not be the specific vintage either, they are library photos to show the general presentation of the wine.

Shipping And Handling
We have revised our delivery charges to offer better value for money. Delivery is now FREE on orders over £250 to majority of mainland UK. Please read the list below for exceptions in Scotland. Delivery for orders up to £249.99 are charged at £8.99 (£7.49 plus VAT). Delivery to the Highlands is £17.95 (£14.95 plus Vat) or FREE on orders over £300. Next working day delivery is made via the APC Courier network Monday to Friday. To allow sufficient time to pick, check and dispatch orders, all orders received before 2.30pm will be delivered next day. Orders received after 2.30pm may still be delivered the next day if we have sufficient time to pick, check and dispatch them. Otherwise they will be delivered the following day. This is charged at £8.99 for the majority of the mainland UK, to be transported through their fragile handling system, but for this fixed fee you can order as many bottles as you like to bring the net cost down (FREE on orders over £250 of course). We aim to maintain this timescale as a general guide, but cannot be held responsible for circumstances beyond our control. You as the customer are paying for “delivery”. We choose to provide this on a next working day basis wherever possible but cannot be held responsible for delays beyond our control such as (but not limited to) traffic, weather or breakage in transit. If there is a delay we will endeavour to get your wine to you as quickly as possible.

A signature from an adult, aged 18 or over, is required by the Courier on delivery. If there is nobody in when the courier arrives they will leave a card for you to contact them to arrange redelivery. If they haven’t been contacted within three days they will return the goods to us. We can then arrange for redelivery but this will incur an additional delivery charge. There is the option to have your wine left unsigned for, in the shed or porch for example, but please note this is at the customer’s own risk and we only recommend you do this if you are sure it will be safe – we cannot be held responsible for items going missing under these circumstances. Although we have only had 2 instances of missing items in 10 years, we recommend having your wine left with a neighbour where it can be signed for if you will not be there to accept it yourself.

Scotland councils of Angus, Argyll & Bute, Clackmannanshire, Dundee City, East Renfrewshire, Falkirk, Fife, Highland, Inverclyde, Moray, Perth & Kinross, Renfrewshire and Stirling are charged at £14.95 plus VAT.

Note on specific delivery times

As we use the APC Network we have no direct control of delivery times. Asking for delivery before 9am or after 5pm for example is simply not viable as the couriers will not be able to accomodate it. The APC Network transport several million items per day, and they have to operate in a certain way. All goods are transported to a central hub overnight from where they are sent to regional depots in the early hours. The goods are then split onto individual vehicles and routes planned dependant on that day’s deliveries. It may be that your address is at the beginning of the route, or at the end of the route but the couriers simply cannot change their route to accomodate somebody wanting their delivery at a specific time of day. If you suspect that you are not going to be in when the courier calls, please organise when placing your order to leave your delivery with a neighbour or in a safe place such as the porch or shed.

We also get requests for the couriers to phone before delivery but unfortunately APC do not offer this service, as the extra time and expense involved could potentially be huge. Individual drivers will sometimes do this, but the APC company policy is not to (understandably).

We do our best, as do the couriers, to provide a good reliable delivery service. It is in all our interests (us, the courier and you the customer) to complete as many deliveries as possible on the first attempt as it is simpler and cheaper all round.

Back Orders
If your item is not in stock, we will back order for you. You will always be emailed with the option to cancel your order if you would rather not wait.
Tax Charges
For all orders UK 20% VAT is added (as well as UK Excise duty of between £2.16 and £2.89 per bottle). All our prices are quoted as Duty Paid. You may find some merchants quoting cheaper prices as their wines are In Bond and UK excise duty and VAT has still to be added.
Credit Card Security
We know of no documented cases of credit card fraud using our shopping system over the Internet. All credit card numbers are encrypted in the software when the order is placed using 128 bit encryption. They are only decrypted after they reach our computer. They are not held in clear text on any web site. We use Sagepay to process all transactions and your credit card details are not recorded or stored anywhere on our systems or premises.

Returns Policy

We offer a full refund to all customers if the wine is faulty, or in the event of breakage. Please check the condition of the wine on delivery and record any breakages on the courier’s delivery note. We cannot offer a refund if you simply don’t like the wine, only if it is faulty. If there is a problem please contact us via email or phone immediately, stating the nature of the problem and quoting your order number and personal details. Then please return the items to the address below. Any faulty wines which you have opened must be reported and returned immediately to be evaluated for refund correctly. We regret that after this time we cannot offer a refund or replacement as the wine may have been subject to outside influences (excessive heat/cold/light/vibration) after delivery for which we can take no responsibility.

Upon receipt of the items we will contact you within three working days to arrange refund or exchange (all refunds will be re-credited to the purchasing credit / debit card account – including any additional postage charges incurred).

Refunds will be credited back to your account upon receipt of the items. This process normally takes no more than two weeks.

* Phone calls will be answered during shop opening times (0900am to 1600pm, Mon to Fri) and billed at the (UK) local rate.

If you want to return wine for any other reason (such as you accidentally ordered the wrong wine) we try to be flexible. Please phone or email us straight away to let us know there is a problem. You may return the wine to us within 2 weeks at your expense. We will check the wine and so long as it is undamaged we will offer a full refund for the wine (excluding delivery charge).

Cancellation Rights
Customers have 7 days from the date of receiving goods in which to cancel any order. Goods must be returned unopened and undamaged, at customer’s expense, and a refund, minus original despatch costs, will be issued within 7 days of good’s return.

Nothing in these terms and conditions affects your legal statutory rights.
