Rose Wines Introduction

Important information if you are sensitive to Sulphites

Most Rose wines contain comparatively high levels of sulphites. For this reason, we don't list much Rose wine as it's difficult to find ones with low sulphite content. However, we now have two from Frey Winery in California, which are completely natural with no chemicals whatsoever. Plus another sulphite free one from Domaine Costes Cirgues, plus a very low sulphite delicious organic Rose from Cantina La Selva in Maremma, Tuscany.

  1. Domaine D'Anglas Bordee les Muriers Rose sulphite free wine

Bordee par les Muriers means "bordered by mullberries". This wine comes from a 2 hectare plot of scrub lightly planted with vines.

The wine was aged in barrel for three months adding body and a full mouthfeel. Let it breathe for ten minutes to soften. It's quite complex with some red fruit flavours and a slightly nutty finish, and the oak is noticeable. It's a gourmet wine best paired with soft cheese and charcuterie.

If you want a more straight forward, lighter rose opt for their Farigoulette instead.

  2. Santa Margherita Chiaretto DOC Stilrose

    James Suckling 90 Points

Santa Margherita Chiaretto Stilrose is a superb rose for the discerning wine drinker. Pale salmon pink in colour, full and round in the mouth with complex concentrated flavours. Gentle acidity cleanses the palate on the long finish. This wine is the Italian equivalent to good Cotes de Provence, although this is comparatively low in sulphites too (which is very difficult to find in France). This is the Italian "Whispering Angel".

  4. Tampesta Golan Rosado D.O Tierra de Leon

The Tampesta Golan Rose differs from their standard Rose as it is 100% Prieto Picudo (as opposed to having some Tempranillo) and is has been aged on the lees and in wood for a few months to give a fuller body and more complexity. It is lovely!

  6. Argiolas Serra Lori Rosato Isola dei Nuraghi IGT

This is a lovely Rose. A nose of strawberries, so it comes as no suprise to get strong strawberry flavours on the palate. Plenty of fruit with a full mouthfeel and creamy texture. The wine has a crisp, dry finish leaving you wanting more. Ideal as an aperitif, for sipping in the garden or can partner certain foods such as chicken or white meats. Reminiscent of unsugared stawberries and cream!

  9. Frey Natural Rose sulphite free wine

BTI World Wine Championships Silver Medal and Highly Recommended.

Due to a technical issue with our organic licensing body for importing organic wines from outside the EU, we have had to have our latest shipment of Frey wines declassified from organic to non organic to clear Customs and meet EU regulations. We had to do this to avoid them being stuck in port for weeks while we sorted out this mess. Hence we are not permitted to market them as organic or even to describe them as organic. We will also be making changes to the physical labels on the bottles to remove the word organic. We apologise for any disruption this may cause and for defacing the labels on these superb wines.

A popular dry rose from Frey. This is a little more tannic than their softer Natural Rose.

Domaine Mayrac have improved on their No SO2 Rose with this Esprit Natur Rose. Still sulphite free and fully organic of course, but this wine is made from 100% Cabernet Franc as opposed to Cinsault in their No SO2 wine.

It's fruity and fresh with strong strawberry flavours, a bit more mouthfeel with gentle natural acidity and a longer finish.
