Costes Cirgues Montplaisir sulphite free wine
Montplaisir from Costes Cirgues is one of our best value sulphite free red wines. It's made in a fresh and fruity style to be enjoyed young. Merlot adds ripe red fruits and the Carignan was fermented under carbonic maceration where the grapes are not pressed but simply crushed by their own weight, which extracts only the free run juice and avoids extracting the tannins.
Excellent this year, in my opinion David's best vintage yet. Full flavoured with good mouthfeel, super smooth and rounded. Great balance and a long finish.
Grape varieties: Merlot Carignan Mourvèdre
Surface: 2 ha
Yield: 40 hl/ha
Harvest: Manually in picking crates
Vinification: The Merlot and Mourvèdre grapes are de-stemmed and fermentation temperature kept to between 18° and 20°C. The cap is punched-down daily, with a short maceration for the Merlot. The Carignan grapes are filled with the stems and undergo carbonic maceration.
No added sulfites.
Tasting: The blend of the three varieties gives this wine its sparkling red robe and harmonious raspberry and bilberry aromas. The black berry forepalate retains its smoothness and freshness thanks to delicate notes of clove and a hint of star anise. The name of this pleasing wine reflects its nature as “one of life’s little pleasures”.
