Costes Cirgues Font de Marinas Blanc sulphite free wine
Font de Marinas is Costes Cirgues only white wine, made from 60% White Grenache, 30% Viognier, and10% Vermentino. Like all their wines, it is fully organic and sulphite free of course.
They make tiny amounts of this wine - literally a couple of thousand bottles - and it has gathered quite a following hence the 2015 sold out before we could even get any. For the 2016 they are ageing it in oak which takes time of course. And it is an expensive process so even if we are able to get hold of some stock when it is released for sale near Christmas, the price will be significantly higher.
However we've been fortunate to get a quantity of the 2013 at a decent price which we are passing on to our customers. It is aged for a sulphite free white, having turned a deeper gold in colour, but has developed well in the bottle, holding up thanks to it's natural antioxidants. On the palate it is full bodied with good mouthfeel. Rich, full flavours with a little peach, but still really clean and fresh on the finish. We enjoyed it on it's own but it will pair really well with good cheese or charcuterie.
When Beatrice bought the run down Chateau to renovate, her son, David, decided to take on the few hectares of vines and produce natural sulphite free wines. They've done really well and make some delicious wines in tiny quantities, sometimes less than 1000 bottles per wine! They improve every vintage and I was really impressed with the last vintage of this white from them.
It's great to find these tiny artisan producers and bring their beautiful wines to our customers in the UK, but when it comes to producers this small it is inevitable that we will sell out and be without their wines for much of the year. Keep your eyes out for when it comes back into stock and snap it up quickly!
