Borgo Salcetino Chianti Classico DOCg
Borgo Salcetino Chianti Classico DOCg - absolutely superb, having picked up Gambero Rosso's highest award of Tre Bicchieri.
What a great find this was at Vinitaly! I've been a fan of Livon wines from the far north eastern Friuli region but I didn't know they owned a boutique winery in Tuscany! So at the end of a long day when they sat me down to a tasting - a seat is really hard to find at Vinitaly! - then brought out a selection of their delicious crisp whites and a platter of sausage and cheeses, I thought it couldn't get any better. Then, wow! Two superb Chiantis.
The 2013 vintage Classico was awarded Gambero Rosso's highest award of Tre Bicchieri - very rare for a red retailing at under £15, then again for the 2014!
95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo. Made from handpicked grapes, fermented in wood. It's got a bit of spice to it, plus plenty of fruit. Very very smooth with good acidity cleansing the palate. This is excellent wine and superb value!
