Sensational Wines

These are ideal gifts of course! Exclusive high quality wines make a great present. Many of these wines are exclusive to us in the UK

We have a lot of exceptional wines as we cherry pick the very best wines we discover, and the whole ethos of our business is about quality first.

We have far too many to list on one page though so please read through the various countries in the menu on the left of this page to find wines to suit your tastes. And please be open minded to new countries and regions, and new grape varieties as well, as there is a great deal to discover.

We now specialise in wines from Argentina and South Africa as they are producing truly world class wines, at very reasonable prices compared to old world equivalents. Cheap factory produced wines from both these countries have damaged their respective reputations in the UK, but taste their best hand made wines and you'll be amazed at the quality....and quickly converted.

We've got some very good wines from Italy too, from some of the country's top producers like Zenato, La Scolca, Santa Margherita and St Michael Eppan. We also have a small selection of excellent boutique wines from various regions in Spain.

We've put together an initial selection for you below, but there are many more on our site. So please read through the site at your leisure to discover some of the best wines available anywhere in the UK.

95 Points Best Cabernet Franc from Chile Descorchados 2017

    93 Points Robert Parker

    94 Points James Suckling

Maquis is uniquely situated at the convergence of two rivers on clay, alluvial soils making it potentially the best site in Chile for Cabernet Frank which inspired them to make this stunning wine.

It's big and silky with red and black fruits with a light spice, then big vanilla coming through on the long finish.

    This is something special.

  4. Atamisque Petit Verdot

Atamisque Petit Verdot is a single varietal to rival their superb Assemblage blend.

Hand harvested and sorted grapes of course, the wine is made on their gravity flow system with as minimal intervention as possible. Aged in new French oak for 18 months.

Typically big and powerful, very natural in style. Big black fruit, velvet smooth. This is very good wine.

    Highly recommended.

  5. Joubert Tradauw Reserve Cabernet Franc

    Joubert-Tradauw Cabernet Franc Reserve 2016

    Tim Atkin says:

"This brilliant Cabernet Franc is one of the best in South Africa, produced in the slightly unlikely surroundings of Tradouw in the Klein Karoo. Wonderfully smooth, floral and refined, this handles its 50% new oak with style, showing graphite, black cherry and vanilla notes.
    2020-26"

This is Meyer's flagship wine and is absolutely beautiful! We have a very limited stock (2016).

  6. Atamisque Assemblage

Atamisque Assemblage is a superb Bordeaux blend from Tupungato in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. This is the flagship wine of Bodega Atamisque and consists of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot

The winery was designed on a gravity system to avoid the use of pumps. The grapes from the low yielding vines were hand harvested into small boxes to avoid damage then underwent a rigorous selection at the winery. The wine was subsequently aged for 14 months in new French oak. It's a full flavoured wine with power and elegance combined, very smooth with a very long finish.

    Highly recommended.

  7. Angulo Innocenti Unisono

Angulo Innocenti Unisono is the premium wine from this tiny artisan family winery, and is one of the finest wines from Argentina I have ever tasted.

Huge fruit, super smooth, black and red fruit flavours with vanilla on the finish. Very silky in the mouth with superb balance. I describe this wine as "Argentina in a glass". It is something special and well worth the £30 price tag.

  8. Bodegas El Porvenir - Laborum Malbec

World Malbec Masters 2021 - Gold Medal

El Porvenir Laborum Malbec is in my opinion one of Argentina's very best Malbecs with many awards to it's name. Pure fruit expression with superb balance and length. The natural sugar level of these grapes from the highest quality winery in the world gives this wine incredible sweet fruit on entry. This is tempered by the oak (14 months in new both French and American). It's super smooth, very well balanced with some vanilla coming through on the finish. If you want to see what all the fuss being made about Malbec is all about, this is the wine to go for!

Just moved onto 2018 which is already drinking superbly.

  9. Bodegas El Porvenir - PORVENIR

Just moved onto the 2015 which is a blend of Malbec, Bonarda & Tannat

Only 8500 bottles produced. I'm a huge fan of El Porvenir - they're Laborum wines are stunning, and this is even better. It's a big, powerful wine but also structured and refined. El Porvenir is the highest quality winery in the world, and that altitude lends certain characteristics to the wines which make them some of the very best in Argentina. The altitude produces wines with sweet tannins and good body with plenty of acidity which is essential for making top quality balanced wines. The soil also contains greater mineral and salt content which influences the wine's flavour. It's a superb wine, with big fruit flavours, sweet tannins, backbone and structure. It's full in the mouth and wonderfully smooth with great overall balance. Fantastic wine!

4 1/2 stars Platter Wine Guide

    Michaelangelo Double Gold

    National NWC Double Gold

Double Gold @ SA Top 100 Wines

    James Suckling – 90 points

    Tim Atkins – 91 points

    Only 7000 bottles produced.

Lovely wine. Still young of course, with racy acidity and firm tannins. This wine will certainly reward some cellaring but can be enjoyed now if you give it time to breathe and open up. I recommend decanting, ideally for a couple of hours or more to get the best out of it as it really opens up to become super smooth with flavours of plum and damson. I would partner this with barbequed meats or a roast.

  11. Susana Balbo Benmarco Expresivo

    93 / 100, Tim Atkin 2018 (2016 vintage)

96 / 100, James Suckling, Argentine Pushes the Limits, March 2018 (2016 vintage)

    90 / 100, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2016 vintage)

Every vintage of Benmarco Expesivo has been superb in my opinion. Not many people know about it, but it is one of my favourite wines. If you like good Bordeaux you will love this! The current trend in Argentina is to downplay the fruit a bit and make more European style wines, which I personally think is turning your back on one of Argentina's strongest selling points -  the high sugar levels and superb quality grapes derived from the consistent sunshine.

I find the recent vintage of Susana Balbo Brioso for example to be a little too austere for my taste. However this Benmarco Expressivo is still that typical Argentine blockbuster and I would choose this wine over Brioso every time. It's a beauty!

  13. Gavi dei Gavi La Scolca Gigi Black Label DOCG

    5 Grappoli - Duemilavini

La Scolca Black Label Gavi (also known as "Gigi") is regarded as the ultimate Gavi - excepting La Scolca's exclusive extremely limited D'Antan which is Black Label Gavi aged in tanks on the lees for a straight ten years! That is extremely limited and expensive of course but this black label is more affordable and easier to get stock of.

La Scolca Black Label Gavi is highly sought after. Although pale in colour, this is deceptive as it's a big, rich wine packed with flavour and a real weight on the palate. It has a very very long finish.

  14. Jean Daneel Directors Red

Jean Daneel Directors Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc & Merlot matured in 500 litre oak barrels thhen matured in small first use barriques for 24 months.

Fantastic wine. More emphasis on a classic Bordeaux style than his Signature red, with noticeable mentholflavours and a more savoury style.

  15. Sanct Valentin Chardonnay St Michael Eppan DOC Alto Adige

Due Bicchieri - Gambero Rosso '17

Another beautiful wine from St Michael Eppan from their premium Sanct Valentin range. Normally I find Northern Italian chardonnays a little thin although I love the purity and clean feel. This one however is full bodied from being both barrel fermented (50% new, 50% used) and then further barrel aged for 11 months before bottling.

Pale gold in colour. Full of flavour with fruit and vanilla, rich and round with good mouthfeel. Beautifully balanced with integrated acidity and a long luscious finish. Superb.

Please note presentation has changed to a wider, squatter bottle.

This is the flagship wine from this prestigious estate, regarded as the best Sauvignon Blanc in all Italy.

    Gambero Rosso - Due Bicchieri

Ca del Bosco Franciacorta Prestige Cuvee Brut is a spectacular sparkling wine, one of Italy's best, and in my opinion far better than many Champagnes double the price!
