Mauricio Lorca Poetico Cabernet Franc
This Cabernet Franc is also from Mauricio Lorca's vineyards in Vista Flores in the Uco Valley, regarded as the best area in all Argentina for growing high quality grapes. For this "Poetico" there is far more oak than in his Fantasia Cabernet Franc. More concentrated fruit too. In fact this is a great wine, big, powerful and super smooth. Mauricio makes great value wines at affordable prices and some excellent premium wines. I'm delighted here that he has produced a superb Cabernet Franc in the middle price range.
I tasted this along with over a dozen other reds in a "speed tasting" on the decking at the house before we rushed off to Carlo's, so my tasting notes are quite brief. Suffice to say this is an excellent wine and I heartily recommend you try it. When selecting an Argentine red wine, Cabernet Franc isn't the first wine you would think of, but expert winemakers like Mauricio Lorca are producing some superb wines with class and elegance, not just big blockbusting Malbecs.
Huge fruit on entry, red and black berry flavours. Big and round in the mouth, very silky. Then the oak comes in toward the finish. Overall very smooth with great balance and Mauricio's trademark fresh acidity, so although a big wine it's not overpowering.
I'd want a good fillet steak with this!
