Angulo Innocenti Cabernet Sauvignon
Angulo Innocenti is a third generation family farm in the Uco Valley, Argentina's premier vineyard region. They produce low volumes of some good wines. This is their 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% of which was oak aged for 7 months. It's a blend of 2 separate lots from 3 different harvest dates, fermented for different periods! The result is a floral aromatic wine with full body and good mouth feel, smooth and lingering.
I'm delighted to announce they've also released an icon wine which we are eagerly waiting for to arrive from Argentina as it is probably the best red wine I've tasted this year. Due here early August.
A small family winery in La Consulta, Uco Valley, Mendoza. Pedro Angulo moved to Argentina from the Basque country in the 19th century where he met and married Angel Innocenti, an immigrant from Tuscany. They married and started farming grapes. The winery is still going today operated by their great grandchildren Mariano and Maria Innocenti.
Official tasting notes state:
"Deep, inky-ruby colour with lovely lifted notes of fresh mint, sweet spice and blackcurrant jam on the nose. This is a seamlessly integrated, full-bodied wine demonstrating intelligent use of oak (7 months for 50% of the wine) and showing again just how good this part of the Uco Valley is for Cabernet. It's a blend of 2 separate lots from 3 different harvest dates. One lot with 5 days cold maceration; the second with 20 days post fermentation. A delightful, highly aromatic Cabernet."
