Chilean White Wine

Chile is probably the biggest success story in the world of wine in the last ten years. There's a vast array of inexpensive Chilean wine everywhere, but the quality varies enormously. It's vineyards stretch over seven hundred miles north to south in a series of lush valleys between the Andes and the Coastal Ranges. Just like California, and with a very similar climate, Chile's vineyards are more affected by their location east to west between two mountain ranges, rather than north to south. Whereas east facing slopes of the Coastal Ranges receive less rainfall and warmer temperatures, the best vineyards are sited on the west facing slopes of the Andes, which benefit from cool night time temperatures producing high levels of acidity and good concentration of fruit, ideal for sauvignon blanc.

It's difficult to find wines from Chile which are low in sulphites. Please take a look at our Argentinian Whites for some great quality, low sulphite wines including several superb Sauvignon Blancs.
 
 

Aresti Estates Selection Reserva Chardonnay 2009/10 75cl
Hand harvested grapes from two of Aresti's vineyards, again cold fermented to retain freshness and flavour. This limited production wine was then aged in French oak for six months, producing a fruit driven wine, full bodied with noticeable oak and vanilla on the long finish . Great value. If you like an oaked Chardonnay this is a great wine at this price.

Aresti Estate Selection Chardonnay 2011 75cl
Hand harvested grapes from two of Aresti's vineyards, again cold fermented to retain freshness and flavour. A portion of the blend was then aged in oak. Good wine.

Please note the current batch of this wine is bottled in tall slim bottles as with the Sauvignon Blanc below, not in the Burgundy shape as displayed here.

Aresti Estate Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2012 75cl
Hand harvested grapes cold fermented to retain freshness and flavour. A fresh and fruity Sauvignon, very easy drinking. Not as sharp and acidic as many, more rounded and enjoyable on it's own, not requiring food to balance the acidity. Good wine at this price.

Aresti Estate Selection Gewurztraminer 2011 75cl
14% abv. Aresti is a hugely successful family owned winery with 400 hectares of their own vineyards in the Curico Valley. They make an extensive range of quality award winning wines. Their Gewurztraminer is delicious. Highly aromatic with a great floral nose and strong fruit flavours on the palate with good length. Gewurztraminer is a fantastic grape which makes some delicious wines in it's native Alsace, and it's now starting to have similar success in Chile too. This is a great wine to bring out the best in Oriental food, or simply to enjoy on it's own.

Aresti Estate Late Harvest Gewurztraminer 2010 Dessert Wine 375ml
A fantastic dessert wine from Aresti. 85% Gewurztraminer and 15% Reisling. Deep golden colour. Beautiful flavours with the grapes' natural acidity and sweetness blending to produce a luscious full flavoured wine with great length. It's not as heavy or viscous as many dessert wines which leaves a fresh finish so you can go back for more. Great stuff.
