Sensational Wines

These are ideal Christmas presents of course! Exclusive high quality wines make a great gift. Many of these wines are exclusive to us in the UK

We have a lot of exceptional wines as we cherry pick the very best wines we discover, and the whole ethos of our business is about quality first.

We have far too many to list on one page though so please read through the various countries in the menu on the left of this page to find wines to suit your tastes. And please be open minded to new countries and regions, and new grape varieties as well, as there is a great deal to discover.

We now specialise in wines from Argentina and South Africa as they are producing truly world class wines, at very reasonable prices compared to old world equivalents. Cheap factory produced wines from both these countries have damaged their respective reputations in the UK, but taste their best hand made wines and you'll be amazed at the quality....and quickly converted.

We've got some very good wines from Italy too, from some of the country's top producers like Zenato, La Scolca, Santa Margherita and St Michael Eppan. We also have a small selection of excellent boutique wines from various regions in Spain.

We've put together an initial selection for you below, but there are many more on our site. So please read through the site at your leisure to discover some of the best wines available anywhere in the UK.

The Grande Provence 2014 75cl

Platter 4 Stars

"Grapes for the TGP are hand harvested from vineyards overlooking the Grand Provence Estate. The well drained, decomposed sandstone soil is ideal for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. Special vinification methods are used to obtain low vigour, slow ripening grapes, perfect building blocks for this iconic Bordeaux-style blend.

A perfectly balanced, full-bodied and multi-dimensional red-style blend. The nose and palate are made up of layers of plum, mint, dark chocolate, spice and cigar box aromas. The mouth feel is soft, well rounded with an elegant and lingering finish.

Merlot 70%, Malbec 10%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20%, barrel aged for 36 months in small French, first-fill barrels. It is important to let the wine breath for 1-2 hours. Enjoy now or cellar for 5-7 years".

The Grande Provence White 2015 75cl

Platter 4 Stars

"56% Chenin Blanc from 32 year old vines, hand harvested and gently pressed is then fermented in old large French oak barrels for 1 year. 44% Viognier from high on the slopes of the Franschhoek mountains is whole bunch pressed and aged in new and older French Oak barriques for one year. Perfectly blended to create a sublime blend of two classic varieties".

This wine is beautiful. Big, rich and full bodied. Round on the palate with concentrated flavours and a creamy mouthfeel with a very long finish.

This wine is made in tiny quantites so availability is extremely limited to just a few cases for the UK market.

The Grande Provence Amphora Chenin 2015 75cl

Platter 4.5 Stars

"There something to be said about following in the footsteps of ancient Greek and Roman winemakers who embraced this “technology” thousands of years ago, using clay hewn out of the earth to cradle and nurture a living liquid. The journey of the Grande Provence Amphora wine began when the winemaker decided to import two 400 litre clay amphorae from Manetti Gusmano and Figli from Florence, Italy, with seven generations of experience in crafting their superb vessels. A small block of really old Chenin Blanc (34 years old) in Franschhoek were selected and only the very best yellow, sun-exposed bunches were picked to maximise the health, flavour and aromatic expression of the wine. The grapes were de-stemmed by hand, left to ferment naturally on skins and remained topped in the clay amphorae for 7 months, without sulphur.

The wine is a blend of mostly Chenin Blanc, from one of the oldest blocks in Franschhoek and a touch of Muscat D’ Alexandrie. Pressed Viognier skins were also added to the blend for added texture. The wine was racked, fined and settled for a month in an old 500 litre barrel before bottling.

The wine is fresh and extremely aromatic. Upfront flavours of mandarin and citrus on the nose that carries through beautifully onto the palate, complemented by hints of perfume from the Viognier. An elegant and complex wine with integrated layers of differential textures. Serve slightly chilled.

We understand now that tannins from seeds and skins help preserve the wine naturally. We know that using vessels made from clay allows the wine to “breathe” during ageing therefore needing less sulphur for stability. With careful winemaking and allowing the fruit to express site authenticity, this wine is full of fruit purity and intense aromatics.".

A stunning "natural" wine fermented with it's own native yeasts then left on the lees in the clay amphora for seven months. As a huge fan of natural wines I believe you can really taste the life in this wine! Full bodied with intense flvours and a slightly nutty finish. I pleaded with Suzanne not to let the winemaker add any sulphites at bottling as I felt the wine didn't need it, but they couldn't take the risk, so a very small amount was added. The amounts are very low though so this wine is fine even if you have sulphite allergy.

Grande Provence only made 600 bottles, and as you can imagine from the description it is time consuming and expensive to produce, so availability is extremely limited. I have literally 36 bottles for the UK market and thisat £40 is at a subsidised price!

Grande Provence Sauvignon Blanc 2016 75cl

Platter 4.5 Stars

Gold - Concours Mondial

Gold - Sommeliers Selection Awards

Beautiful wine! And in my opinion this is the best vintage yet.

The secret to making great Sauvignon Blanc in Franschoek? Use coastal fruit. The fruit for this wine was all sourced from Durbanville and the Coastal Region up above Cape Town where the Atlantic winds create big temperature differences between night and day, which is perfect for cool climate varieties like Sauvignon.

Great fruit with that typical Sauvignon nose. Green fruit yet soft in the mouth with full body - I suspect some lees ageing. Very clean and crisp with a very long lingering finish. This is perhaps the finest SA Sauvignon I have tasted.

Tapiz Las Notas de Jean Claude 2012 75cl

96 Points & Best Merlot - Descorchados 2017

94 Points & Editors Choice - Wine Enthusiast

94 Points - The Wine Advocate

This is something very special!

A collaboration between Bodega Tapiz and Jean Claude Berrouet, winemaker at Chateau Petrus for 25 years (1982 -2007). Jean Claude is regarded as one of the finest winemakers the world has ever known, and a world leader with Merlot. Under his direction Chateau Petrus became one of the most expensive and sought after wines in the world.

It comes as no surprise then to find this blend is heavily dominated by Merlot. I've copied the Tapiz wine information below. I tasted it at Barrulo and was really impressed. This is a stunning wine, very silky and elegant. It was late on at the show by the time I tasted it so I didn't even attempt to make my own tasting notes by that stage, so be guided by the official ones below. But trust me, this is something very special from Argentina!

VARIETAL COMPOSITION

91% Merlot

3.5% Petit Verdot

3.0% Cabernet Sauvignon

2.5% Cabernet Franc

ORIGIN

Single Vineyard from San Pablo Estate, Uco Valley, Mendoza

VINEYARD

FERMENTATION PROCESS

Fermented in stainless steel tanks for approximately 12 days at 28ºC. Use of selected yeasts.

100% malolactic fermentation

TASTING NOTES

This specimen expresses the maximum intensity on the nose, finesse, elegance and harmony generated by our terroir . On the nose: notes of fresh red fruits, raspberries, cassis and truffles accompanied by delicate spicy hints. Its oak aging brings aromas of coffee and chocolate amalgamated with fruity notes typical of this varietal of San Pablo Estate . The palate is intense, with sweet and elegant tannins . A long finish , hard to forget. A wine that represents the art of precision from the vineyard to the glass.

An emerging new winery from Matias Michelini, one of Argentina's most exciting new winemakers. Matias gained his winemaking expertise working for some of the biggest names in Argentine winemaking including Finca Sophenia, Luigi Bosca and Doña Paula . His vineyards are also in Argentina's permier location - Tupungato in the Valle de Uco, Mendoza, so you know this wine is going to be good!

It's a blend of Malbec and Bonarda from old vines, all farmed biodynamically. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented with natural yeasts. The wine is then aged for 20 months in old French oak to impart subtle flavours, and bottled unfiltered to retain maximum flavour.

Only 1500 bottles produced, and packed in wooden cases of only 3 bottles.

95 Points from Parker is exceptional praise. Feedback received from one of our regular customers who buys all our top reds was that it is the best wine he has ever tasted! High praise! We have to agree, this is one of the very best wines on our entire site.

Apologies for image - an empty bottle was used for this publicity photo. The wine is of course deep red in colour, not white!

Incredulo D.O. Toro 2010 75cl
90 Points Guia Penin

We are just receiving new stock which will be the 2010 vintage. Below are notes on the 2009.

Bodega Pago de Cubas is a new winery established in 2007 by a group of wine lovers to showcase the incredible potential of the Toro region. For anybody not familiar with the Spanish wine regions, DO Toro and DO Bierzo are the two most exciting emerging regions for red wines in the country. They work with Spain's signature red grape Tempranillo (known locally as Tinto de Toro) . Like Ribera Del Duero, Toro is quickly gaining a reputation for producing some of the best boutique wines in Spain, and in my opinion this is one of them.

The winery is located in the village of Valdefinjas. The winemaker is Rosa Maria Zarza, Toro's top female winemaker. They released their first vintage 2008, producing just 18,000 bottles. So we have found this winery just as they are starting out, with their second ever vintage 2009.

This Incredulo is beautiful. I don't have my notes as we took our tasting sample to Carlo's so he could try it too. We were all very impressed. Big and juicy, powerful yet sophisticated, this is a great wine. I'll post more detailed notes as soon as I retaste it, but trust me this is a special wine and great value for money.

This wine was made naturally and not filtered so there will be a little sediment.

Joubert Tradauw Reserve Cabernet Franc 2013 75cl

3.5 Stars Platter 2017

But this is wildly off the mark. I'd rate this wine the full 5 Stars, it is absolutely beautiful and beautifully made. The Platter Guide has lost some accuracy due to having 17 different evaluaters with often contradicting different personal tastes. You can get a wildly different rating depending who actually evaluates the wine! Grande Provence told me they only got 2.5 Stars for their Sauvignon Blanc (which is a stunning wine). Then when it won Gold elsewhere Platter retasted it and upped it to 4.5 Stars! So they don't get it right every time, and they certainly didn't get it right with this wine.

This is Meyer's flagship wine and would normally retail for £30. He has only produced 600 bottles.

However we have a small quantity on a special deal at £21.95 to introduce it to our regular UK customers. Be quick though, once this is discoverd somebody will buy the lot!

Joubert Tradauw's tasting notes:

"Hand-harvested during middle to end of March and barrel matured in new French Oak barrels for 24 months. A brooding garnet of sweet red and black hedgerow fruit combined with stewed apples and cranberry, cigar box and hints of spice. Re-assuring tannins, cedar and a strong plum finish. Drink through to 2025. Cab Franc complements any hearty meat dishes like oxtail, cock a vin, spicy foods and pulled pork.

It plays well with spicy undertones but more suitable for neutral dishes like bouillebaise or a tom jum soup, as the wine is very classic, balanced and thinly layered, with a good mouth feel and lingering palate."

We tasted it and it's fantastic! Very elegant and beautifully structured with all the elements in harmony - great fruit, oak and balanced acidity. This wine is superb!

Rainbow's End Family Reserve Stellenbosch 2011 75cl

Platter 4.5 Stars

"Anton and Francois Malan, direct descendants of the French Huguenot winemaker, Jacques Malan, waited patiently for ten years for their vineyard blocks to age to perfection in order to select the best possible grapes for this artisan creation.

Only the best barrels of each variety were selected, blended and aged for two years in small French oak barrels. A reflection of our Rainbow’s End terroir and one of the best wines our estate has produced to date."

Merlot 39%, Malbec 19%, Cabernet Sauvignon 19%, Petit Verdot 19% & Cabernet Franc 4% - aged in medium toast French oak for 24 months, then a further 18 months in bottle before release. Each bottle is individually numbered and only 10 barrels were produced.

This is a fantastic wine. It is elegant and sophisticated rather than big and powerful, more for the connoisseur and educated palate. Like "The Grande Provence", another excellent example of South African winemakers producing top class European style wines. I recommend you have this wine with food.

Exceptionally limited of course with only 180 bottles for the UK market. Due to it's rarity Anton has decided not to enter it for any awards, as it will be massively oversubscribed. Anton's most recent vintages have just been awarded:

Michaelangelo Gran D'Or (Double Gold) for this maiden vintage!

April 2014 - selected for Top 100 SA Wines

Lovely wine. Still young of course, with racy acidity and firm tannins. This wine will certainly reward some cellaring but can be enjoyed now if you give it time to breathe and open up. I recommend decanting, ideally for a couple of hours or more to get the best out of it as it really opens up to become super smooth with flavours of plum and damson. I would partner this with barbequed meats or a roast.

This is Susanna's signature wine. As she explains on the back label, she's been making wines at her family's winery in Argentina and at various other wineries around the world for 25 years. Susanna is proud to offer this wine under her own name as the very best wine she can produce. It's a classic Bordeaux blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, all grown at high altitude and subsequently aged in French oak. Stunning wine. Big fruit flavours with initial vanilla and pepper balanced with big alcohol. Full bodied, smooth and very long. Left to breathe for half an hour, the wine opens up beautifully. Ideal with food or equally delicious to savour on it's own. Susanna is right to be proud of this one.

Bodegas Y Vinedos Mauricio Lorca Inspirado 2010 75cl

Robert Parker 94 Points for 2008

This 2010 has just landed and we have no info on it yet. We will update the website as soon as we can. Below are the tasting notes for the 2008.

Mauricio Lorca is one of Argentina's best winemakers. He has been head winemaker at Enrique Foster for some years and now also produces some exceptional wines under his own brand. This Inspirado is a new wine for him and represents the pinnacle of his winemaking talents.

His vineyards are in Vista Flores, Uco Valley Mendoza - regarded by many as the best vineyard area in all Argentina. The vines are all low yielding to provide optimum quality fruit.

It's a blend with 40% Syrah, 30% Malbec, 20% Cabernet and 10% Petit Verdot. Most top Argentine blends are Malbec dominated so this is something both unusual and special. It's a huge decadent wine with rich intense dark fruit flavours. Well integrated mouth coating tannins with full body and balanced acidity, very smooth and a really long finish. Like liquid velvet.

Mauricio has produced a superb wine here - so good that we've bought all that was imported to the UK! He's only made a few hundred bottles so demand will obviously outstrip supply - it isn't even on his website. It's already drinking superbly but will age for many years to come if you wish to lay some down.

Zenato Amarone 2012 75cl

Sommelier Wine Awards 2015 - Gold Medal for the 2010

Already drinking superbly.

For Amarone enthusiasts Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Zenato needs no introduction. It is one of the best Amarones on the market, and is consistently superb year on year. In fact in all my years of drinking this wine I've never had a disappointing bottle, although I've had other Amarones which haven't been up to scratch.

Zenato are one of the region's (Veneto) most respected producers, and are regarded as one of the best producers in all Italy. They have a portfolio of excellent wines, but it is their Amarone for which they are most famous. There are plenty of other big name Amarones out there like Cesari, Tedeschi & Allegrini to name a few, but none are in my opinion as consistently excellent as Zenato.

The wine is big, bursting with fruit and sweet tannins. Very powerful, wonderfully smooth with a really long finish. Perfect with good fillet steak, but also smooth enough to enjoy with lighter dishes or to enjoy on it's own if you just want to treat yourself to a decadent bottle of wine!

Sansonina 2013 75cl

A truly remarkable wine from initial concept right through to the finished article. Sansonina was created by Carla Prospero, and Nadia Zenato - wife and daughter of the late great Sergio Zenato. They bought a 12 hectare estate in the Lugana region, famous for white wine of course, which also had some old Merlot vines. They planted new Merlot and set out to prove that two women could make a powerful, elegant wine to rival any in Italy, and possibly the world.

Naturally everything is done by hand with dedication and passion. The grapes are collected in small boxes and soft pressed to avoid extracting too much tannin. The wine is aged in small oak casks for 18 months then further bottle aged prior to release. It is a stunning wine. Ruby in colour with a rich, complex nose. On the palate it is both powerful and elegant, complex with an array of flavours of red fruits, jam, cocoa and slight mint and vanilla. Full bodied, extremely smooth, supple and elegant with a really long finish. This is a very special wine. Jane absolutely loved it!

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot aged for 12 months in French oak barriques and a further 6 months in bottle prior to release. This wine is a beauty - you'd have to pay double for it's better known close neighbour, a DOC Bolgheri, anywhere near this quality.

Joubert Tradauw Chardonnay 2013 75cl

4 Stars Platter 2017

Text taken from their website:

French oak matured and left on the lees for 12 months, bottled unfiltered. This elegant and feminine Chardonnay offers hints of toasted almonds, fynbos, honey and subtle vanilla. It has a full palate complemented with a ripe citrus burst on the finish. Drink through to 2018

This wine is a beauty. The oak is tempered and the whole wine has great balance of fruit oak and acidity.

The 32 mg/l free SO2 was at bottling and will have reduced by now. This is very low for an oak matured white. It's a clean wine, very natural and a great choice for healthy drinking.

Grande Provence Chardonnay 2015 75cl

Gold - The Sommeliers Selection Awards

Platter 4 Stars

A long time favourite of mine. The grapes for this wine come from the best vineyard in Franschoek for Chardonnay at Robertsvlei above the dam, which has lowered the overall temperature allowing Grande Provence to produce the best Chardonnay in Franschoek (in my opinion).

I went to Chamonix before my meeting at GP where I tasted their Platter 5 Star Chardonnay 2015 which was very good. I also, being trade, was able to taste their Reserve Chardonnay 2015 which aslo got 5 stars from Platter. This wine was excellent. However they both paled in my opinion compared to this one from Grande Provence which just seemd to have more layers and more complexity. Here at GP's notes:

"The Chardonnay grapes come from the valley of Robertsvlei in Franschhoek, known for its cooler climate and ideal for the cultivation of this prestigious variety. Open canopies allow for lots of sunshine supported by moderate rainfall. A longer ripening period resulted in grapes filled with concentrated fruit flavours.

An elegant, full bodied wine with outstanding fruit and wood integration. Experience citrus, almonds and creamy flavours on the nose and palate, with nuances of vanilla. The wine has a soft and well balanced mouth feel with an elegant, lingering finish.

Matured for 11 months in 60% first fill and 40% second fill, French oak barrels. Enjoy this wine now or mature for 2-3 years from vintage".

Personally I think this wine will improve with some bottle age over the next few years.

Claime D'Or Chardonnay 2014 75cl

I was simply stunned by this wine! We had been looking for a top quality oaky Chardonnay for over a year to replace a Californian wine we used to stock, but we just couldn't find a wine good enough - until we tried this! We had collected a case of samples a couple of days before from Rietvallei and were sitting by the hotel pool late one afternoon. The hotel (Protea President, Bantry Bay) was excellent and they let us bring all our samples down for tasting for a reasonable £3 corkage including glasses, ice bucket etc (UK hotels take note!).

One sip and we just exchanged glances - bingo! Exactly what we had been looking for. Big, oaky, buttery, beautiful balance, really long finish. This wine is fantastic.

On retasting here in the UK, I was delighted that the wine was as good as I remembered. The oak is perhaps less obvious than I remember but it is beautifully integrated creating a stunning wine. It's also very pure with minimal additives or manipulation, so unlike many wooded Chardonnays you can drink a couple of bottles without fearing a hangover from the bound sulphur! Just 3400 bottles produced. This wine is something special!

Sanct Valentin Chardonnay St Michael Eppan DOC Alto Adige 2013/14 75cl

Vitigno Italia - Gold Medal for the 2012.

Another beuatiful wine from St Michael Eppan. I tasted this at Vinitaly 2015 and immediately questioned why I hadn't discovered it before (having stocked their wonderful Sauvignon for years). Their wines are something special, and I'm a huge Chardonnay fan.

Normally I find Northern Italian chardonnays a little thin although I love the purity and clean feel. This one however is full bodied from being both barrel fermented (50% new, 50% used) and then further barrel aged for 11 months before bottling.

Pale gold in colour. Full of flavour with fruit and vanilla, rich and round with good mouthfeel. Beautifully balanced with integrated acidity and a long luscious finish.

Superb.

Sommelier Wine Awards 2015 - Silver Medal for the 2013

Awarded Gambero Rosso's highest rating of Tre Bicchieri for an incredible 17 years in succession!

This is the flagship wine from this prestigious estate, regarded as the best Sauvignon Blanc in all Italy. Having tasted it I have to agree, it's something very special. Very pale green in colour so it was quite a suprise to get such a strong concentration of fruit on the nose, almost pear drop like. There's intense fruit flavour on the palate too but with suprising body. In fact I'd describe the wine as 'full bodied' although this is then balanced beautifully by crisp acidity which cleanses the palate. Add to this an incredible 30 second plus finish, and you can see why it's consistently won Italy's most respected wine award. Superb wine.

Grangehurst 2006

John Platter 4.5 Stars

The flagship wine of the estate, a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. 15 barrels of Jeremy's top wines were aged for 33 months in French oak then blended to produce 3239 bottles (and 572 magnums) of this premium wine. Jeremy describes it as both "a collector's item" and a wine to be enjoyed when you are in the mood for opening a special red.

And we agree, it is special. Big and opulent, rich, round and very smooth with a really long lingering finish. Currently one of our very best South African reds!

Grangehurst Shiraz Cabernet Reserve 2005

John Platter 4.5 Stars

67% Shiraz, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon. 9 barrels of Jeremy's finest wine were selected to make this cuvee of just over 2000 bottles. The wines were aged for 26 months in French oak (91% with 9% American) prior to blending.

Big, opulent, rich and round. The ageing gives it a mature soft palate, not the racier style you get with younger wines. Lovely flavours of dark fruit with noticeable oak, very smooth of course with a long lingering finish. Clearly a new world wine made in an old world style! It's a wine to be savoured leisurely either on it's own by the fire or with the Sunday roast.

Santa Margherita "52" Rose 75cl

Following on from the success with their stunning limited production Prosecco 52, Santa Margherita launched a very limited production Rose version in 2013.

Complex DOCg laws mean that there is now no such wine as "Prosecco Rose", only white sparkling wines are allowed to call themselves Prosecco. However this is a Prosecco in all but name, made from the traditional Glera grape. The white Prosecco is then blended with a Rose made from Malbec and refemented in tank. The resulting wine is then bottle aged for 5 months before release.

This wine is exlusive to us in the UK and is exteremely limited. They only produce 2000 bottles annually which they intended exclusively for the Italian market, but we have negotiated an allocation of 960 bottles - this won't last long though!

Franciacorta Ca del Bosco Prestige Cuvee Brut DOCG 75cl

Gambero Rosso - Due Bicchieri

Exceptionally limited availability.

This is one of Italy's greatest sparkling wines and is quite spectacular. Consisting of 75% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Bianco and 15% Pinot Nero, all vinified separately. These wines were then aged for 8 months in tank then blended together along with reserve wines from the cellar - the same process as in Champagne where different reserve vintages are back blended to achieve the required quality and style. The wine is then further bottle aged prior to release. It's pale gold in colour. On the palate there is a delightful fizz as the wine almost evaporates on the tongue, with a very fine mousse. Delicious flavours of peaches and biscuits. Supremely balanced with fantastic length. I can't praise this wine enough - it is well worth splashing out on a bottle. Presentation is fantastic too with the dumpy bottle (each bottle comes wrapped in gold celaphane).

Colmant Blanc de Blanc Brut Chardonnay 75cl

Cap Classique Challenge 2013 : Best SA Blanc de Blancs NV

Robert Parker 92/100

International Wine Review 92/100

Platter Guide 2014 : 4 1/2 STARS + Highly recommended

Blend

Chardonnay 100% (Franschhoek and Robertson).

15% of the base wine has been barrel fermented.

This wine spends a minimum of 45 months on the lees at a consistent temperature of 14C before degorgement.

Tasting

Delicate light gold colour with a lime-green hue. The nose is fresh, lemony and floral with notes of green apple, followed by yeasty and biscuity aromas brought by the lengthy maturation on the lees. Very fine bead of bubbles with a persistent mousse. Opulent on the palate, this wine shows a harmonious balance between fresh zestiness, mineral complexity and a warm breadth of leesy creaminess. It promises to develop great texture over time.

Extremely limited - less than 60 bottles for the year!

Gavi dei Gavi La Scolca Gigi Black Label DOCG 2015 75cl

La Scolca were the original Gavi producer, and registered the brand name Gavi dei Gavi in the USA, from which other producers derived the now well known term of Gavi di Gavi. The grapes for this wine are sourced from their vineyards in the hills of the Rovereto Superiore di Gavi, then fermented under temperature control to produce this excellent wine. La Scolca are widely recognised as the best Gavi producer, and their wines have a cult following and can be found on the wine list of many of the world's best restaurants.

This Black Label is regarded as the ultimate Gavi (excepting their exclusive extremely limited D'Antan), and is highly sought after. Although pale in colour, this is deceptive as it's a big, rich wine packed with flavour and a real weight on the palate. It has a very very long finish. Spectacular wine, on a par with Morton Estate's Coniglio Chardonnay - two of my very favourite white wines.

Benegas Lynch Cabernet Franc 2007 75cl

Benegas Lynch Cabernet Franc 2007

Just moved onto the 2007. Below are notes for the 2006.

August 2009 - Jancis Robinson has just declared this wine to be 'truly excellent' and one of her top 10 super premium Argentine reds! We don't always share the same opinions but she's definitely got it right this time.

Robert Parker 90 Points

15% abv. This is an incredible wine, made from vines over 80 years old, aged in new French oak. These are the oldest vineyards at Finca Libertad and Federico only makes a tiny quantity of this beautiful wine - 2000 bottles annually. Both Parker and Spurrier give it high praise indeed, and I'm sure there's quite a few envious Borderlaise who wish they could produce wine of this standard. The wine is deep ruby in colour, full flavoured and tremendously smooth with mature tannins. Very very long. Quite simply it's one of the best wines I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. Drinking superbly already but will keep (improving?) for years to come. If you're looking for a really good wine to splash out on and treat yourself to, I highly recommend you try a bottle!

IWSC Outstanding Silver

Please note this is a library photo of the Carmenere. This blend has fantastic presentation - it looks similar but is in an even larger heavy weight bottle.

Made up of 45% Syrah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot. Made from hand picked grapes, aged for 18 months in French oak. This wine is a brand new release for Aresti and is the premium wine of the estate. It's stunningly good! Purple colour with ruby hints, with a big nose. Intense fruit flavours on the palate balanced by the oak, with a little white pepper, and vanilla on the finish. It's very very smooth, full in the mouth with a very long finish. It also doesn't really need to breathe, it can be opened and enjoyed almost instantly - rare for such a big wine. It's very good indeed but also rare with limited availability.

Lugana Riserva Sergio Zenato 2013 75cl

100% Trebbiano di Lugana grapes, from 20 year old very low yielding vines from their Podere Massoni vineyard. Fermented in barriques for three weeks, then aged in new oak barriques for four months with further ageing in bottle prior to release. The wine has plenty of body and viscosity with noticeable oak. The fruit is tempered by the oak producing an elegant, balanced wine with a really long finish. Highly recommended.
