Susana Balbo Nosotros Malbec 2007 75cl

14.5% abv. Nosotros is perhaps Argentina's ultimate wine, a joint venture from Susana Balbo and Pedro Marchevsky. 100% Malbec. Very deep purple in colour with strong liquorice on the nose. Incredible concentration of fruit, supremely balanced with palate cleansing acidity and superb length. Exceptionally limited - there are only 24 bottles in Europe.

Benegas Lynch Cabernet Franc 2005 75cl

August 2009 - Jancis Robinson has just declared this wine to be 'truly excellent' and one of her top 10 super premium Argentine reds! We don't always share the same opinions but she's definitely got it right this time.

Robert Parker 90 Points

15% abv. This is an incredible wine, made from vines over 80 years old, aged in new French oak. These are the oldest vineyards at Finca Libertad and Federico only makes a tiny quantity of this beautiful wine - 2000 bottles annually. Both Parker and Spurrier give it high praise indeed, and I'm sure there's quite a few envious Borderlaise who wish they could produce wine of this standard. The wine is deep ruby in colour, full flavoured and tremendously smooth with mature tannins. Very very long. Quite simply it's one of the best wines I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. Drinking superbly already but will keep (improving?) for years to come. If you're looking for a really good wine to splash out on and treat yourself to, I highly recommend you try a bottle!

Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 09 - Bronze Medal. John Platter 4 Stars

Syrah 71%, Mouverdre 25% and Viognier 4%. This is a fantastic Rhone blend. I've just tasted it again and I'm lost for words. The wine is beautiful, intense plum colour, very very smooth with wonderful 'Rhone' flavours of dark chocolate. 'Blooming gorgeous' was how Jane described it. We've only been able to get 60 bottles so it won't last long. I very strongly recommend you try a bottle while you can!

Schiopetto Rivarossa 2006 75cl

15% abv. IGT Venezia Giulia. Mario Schiopetto is the 'godfather' of the Friulian wine industry, as he pioneered the transformation from strong, rustic wines to classic, structured wines of quality, reflecting Friuli's unique terroir. Since his death his children, Mario, Carlo and Giorgio have continued running the estate making elegant, complex wines with a dedication to quality over commercialism. They're world famous for their whites but they make two excellent reds as well. The winery was named Winery of the Year 2009 by Wine & Spirits Magazine.

This Rivarossa is superb. I actually remarked on tasting it that 'it was better than Zenato's Ripassa' which is high praise indeed as Zenato Ripassa has consistently been one of my favourite wines every year for the last five years! I was certainly surprised at how good it was. It's a different style, more complex, structured and somehow classical - a purity of fruit rather than power. Medium bodied, somehow elegant, with tremendous length. It's a great wine, perfect with food.

Morton Estates Coniglio Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2002 75cl

Winner 'Best Worldwide Chardonnay over £10' for second year in succession at Decanter World Wine Awards.

Just retasted August 2010 and it's still sensational! The bottles are individually wrapped and come in their own Coniglio gift box. Highly recommended.

This wine is only produced in execptional years when the conditions are just right for producing perfect fruit. The grapes for this wine are selected by hand, whole bunch pressed then fermented and matured on the lees in new French oak barriques. The result is a stunning wine of exceptional style and elegance, soft yet full in the mouth with supreme length. And the potential to age for years to come. Each bottle has an individual bottle number and comes with it's own gift box. This wine is frankly sensational.

Benegas Sangiovese 2008 75cl

Very limited. And a superb wine!

15% abv. Please don't be deterred from trying this wine because it's a Sangiovese that's not from Italy! This is a fantastic wine and is something special. 100% Sangiovese from 55 year old vines, with only 14500 bottles produced. Consultant winemaker Michel Rolland has worked his magic once again as he does with all the Benegas reds. This is a superb wine, big, warm and rounded, supremely smooth, structured and layered. Plenty of delicious fruit, well balanced and nowhere near as dry on the finish as traditional Italian Sangiovese. We thoroughly enjoyed this wine in our friend's Italian restaurant where we followed it with an Amarone Zenato and it stood up very well indeed. Highly recommended, have it with food. This wine has been on the Gaucho Grill wine list for a remarkable nine straight years!

Claymore 'Nirvana' Reserve Shiraz Clare Valley 2006 75cl

James Halliday - 94 Points

14.5% abv. This is Claymore's ultra premium wine. 100% Shiraz from Claymore's Penwortham vineyard at altitude. This is a big, powerful, savoury Shiraz full of complex flavours of dark chocolate and black fruits. Well balanced with good body added from 24 months in French oak, with a 'velvet' mouth feel. This is a big wine and needs 20 minutes breathing or decanting to open up to be fully appreciated. Intense fruit flavours with vanilla on the really long finish. Can be savoured on it's own but I thoroughly enjoyed it with a Chinese banquet. Superb wine, but very limited. We are the UK's only importer and we only have a very small quantity available. It really is worth splashing out a little extra and trying a bottle as a treat.

Morton Estates The Regent Bordeaux Blend 2002 75cl

Silver Medal - Decanter World Wine Awards - Best Bordeaux Blend over £10 for 2005, 2006 and 2007! 4.5 stars Michael Cooper Wine Guide 2006

This wine is a product of Morton Estate's dedicated vineyard planting programme, matching individual grape varieties to their ideal terroir. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc matured separately in both French and American oak then blended to produce this supreme wine. Delicious fruit enhanced by a fine tannic structure to produce a wine of elegance and complexity. This wine is superb and has won a silver medal at the Decanter Wine Awards for Best Worldwide Bordeaux Blend over £10 for the last three consecutive years.

I've recently retasted it (July 2010) and it's drinking superbly so I've upped it's rating to an impressive 92/100. This really is a cracker!

Robertson Number One Constitution Road Shiraz 2006

John Platter 4.5 Stars. Decanter - Trophy for Best South African Rhone varietal over £10

14.5% abv. This is the flagship wine from this highly successful winery. Although it's now grown to be South Africa's third largest producer, this is because it's grower owned with a firm focus on producing quality wines at affordable prices. Platter describes this wine as 'Rich, powerful and alluring. Layers of ripe red berries, vanilla and cinnamon, sheathed in svelte harmonious fruit, and oak tannins (34 months in French and American oak). Bold, structured and poised'. I was tipped off about this wine by a colleague who was involved with the winery, and bought some on his recommendation. I'll be adding my tasting notes shortly although I can never be as clear and concise as Platter!

Took a bottle to Carlo's restaurant to pair it with a Welsh Black Tbone. It's fantastic. Big juicy fruit with a mouthfeel like velvet, silky smooth, lively acidity making it ideal with food. Great length too. Like a South African Amarone! This is a cracker!

Aresti Estates Family Collection Blend Rio Claro 2006 75cl

Please note this is a library photo of the Carmenere. This blend has fantastic presentation - it looks similar but is an even larger heavy weight bottle presented in it's own deluxe Aresti branded gift box.

14.5%abv. Made up of 45% Syrah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot. Made from hand picked grapes, aged for 18 months in French oak. This wine is a brand new release for Aresti and is the premium wine of the estate. It isn't even on their website yet. It's stunningly good! Purple colour with ruby hints, with a big nose. Intense fruit flavours on the palate balanced by the oak, with a little white pepper, and vanilla on the finish. It's very very smooth, full in the mouth with a very long finish. It also doesn't really need to breathe, it can be opened and enjoyed almost instantly - rare for such a big wine. It's very good indeed but also rare with limited availability.

The new stock has pretty much been and gone already! Just a few cases left.!

Morton Estates Marlborough Black Label Pinot Noir 2005 75cl

This wine is served in First Class on Qatar Airlines where it won for the airline the award for the 'Best First Class Red' at this year's London Business Travel Show. It's a seriously good buy at this price, far superior to many New Zealand Pinots retailing for considerably more.

The best fruit from their Stone Creek vineyard was harvested at the optimum time to produce this delicious wine. Fermented in stainless steel without wood ageing, to preserve the cherry fruit flavours and the slightly earthy notes from the terroir of the particular vineyard. A lovely full wine, smooth and lingering with soft tannins. Pair with light meats or poultry. I recently enjoyed a bottle in a very good local restaurant with John Coney. It was the ideal accompaniment to our duck leg starter and our Welsh lamb main course. This is a great food wine. Highly recommended.

Severely limited. This wine is made in tiny quantities - only 1200 bottles, and is exclusive to us in the UK.

Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 09 - Bronze Medal. John Platter 4 Stars

Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. A superb Bordeaux blend with big rich fruit flavours, complexity and structure, very smooth and satisfying with great length. Specific parcels of grapes were identified and selected for this special wine from three separate vineyards, then harvested by hand. The different grapes were all vinified and aged separately for twelve months. The best barrels were then selected and blended, then returned to 50% new and 50% second fill French oak for a further four months. The resultant wine is fantastic. The Cabernet Sauvignon lends weight and structure while the Merlot adds rich red fruits and a softness in the mouth. Cabernet Franc brings delicious strong fruit flavours and mature tannins. The oak aging lends vanilla and cedar wood notes and softens the tannins. Already drinking well, this wine will cellar for at least ten years. Denise tells me Jean Daneel is a big fan of this wine, and he makes some of the best red blends in South Africa!

Only 46 bottles remaining - it's a fantastic wine, I strongly suggest you try a bottle now while you can!

Bodega San Huberto Nina Petit Verdot 2004 75cl

Due to supplier increases and the weak pound, the 2005 vintage will be retailing above £20. So stock up on 2004 while you can.

14% abv. This is San Huberto's 'ultra premium wine' made from 100% Petit Verdot grapes, the unsung hero of fine red Bordeaux. The grapes are hand harvested then aged in barrique for 12 months with a further 12 months in bottle prior to release. Deep dark in colour with an inky appearance, with an intense nose of concentrated fruit. This is a complex structured wine with an array of different flavours. Strong fruit on the palate initially, gives way to a slight spice then gentle pepperiness and a hint of vanilla on the really long finish. The wine is exceptionally smooth, medium bodied with a silky mouth feel. It has great balance with just the right amount of mature tannins, acidity and alcohol. This is an exceptional wine. We've only shipped a very small quantity.

MZA Hyatt Award - Gold Medal

14% abv. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot, with 6 to 8 months in French oak. We've been waiting 6 months for the release of this latest vintage. Stunning wine, it sells out so fast it's not even featured on their website. Highly recommended. Big fruit flavours, full in the mouth with an almost velvety mouth feel and a really long finish. Superbly balanced, with good acidity making it an ideal wine to enjoy with food. However I believe it's so good I just want to savour it on it's own. Amarone Cesari 'Il Bosco' 2001 75cl

16% abv. Gerardo Cesari was IWSC Italian Wine Maker of the Year in 2004 & 2006. Yet another fabulous Amarone. 'Il Bosco' comes from a single vineyard of old established vines and is only made in exceptional years. The best quality grapes are individually selected to be dried before pressing. The wine is then aged in large barrels then smaller barriques for three years, with further bottle ageing prior to release. Delicious and one of my personal favourites!

Bodegas El Porvenir Laborum Tannat 2005 75cl

Wine & Spirits - 91 points

14.3% abv. Only 6576 bottles produced. What a beautiful wine! Mundus Vini International Silver Medal.Tannat is originally from France but has now been successfully adopted by Argentina and Uruguay, producing some great full bodied powerful wines. Made from grapes from two vineyards of 35 year old vines and two of 10 year old. Low yielding, hand harvested grapes are vinified then aged in French and American oak for 10 to 12 months. The wine is big with intense flavour, slightly spicy, well structured with balanced acidity and sweet but firm tannins. As it's still young, it really benefits from being left to breathe. It needs 30 minutes but improves dramatically if you can leave it for 60 or even 90 minutes. Similar in style to an Amarone, but a little lighter, it's delicious with food. This wine is beautiful.

Now that's what I call a hand crafted wine! I can't praise this wine enough. Zevenwacht describe it as 'sumptuously fragrant... beautiful mouthfeel....seductive mid palate and a lingering finish'. This is a great wine. Big rich buttery flavours on the palate initially, then the oak shows through on the finish. This is a full bodied, luscious wine which would be lovely to enjoy on it's own, but we also paired it with a cheese tasting we were doing, including a spicy chile cheese - Snowdonia Cheese Company's Red Devil - and it stood up to the heat and strong flavours really well. I've tasted a lot of Chardonnays but I can't recall any that balanced the fruit and the oak so superbly. Great length too. Highly recommended.

This wine is currently on sale at Harrods for £29.50

13.5%abv. This is a single vineyard Chardonnay, widely regarded as the best white wine to come from Tuscany. Deep clear gold in colour with a rich and complex nose. Full in the mouth with rich fruit flavours. It's a delicious full flavoured wine but also has lively acidity making it ideal with food. I paired it with a massaman curry and it was wonderful but you may prefer to enjoy it with something more traditional such as hard cheese or creamy pasta dishes. The only other websites with this wine are selling it for upward of £25 per bottle! It appears to be on the Christopher Piper Wines website at £26.23 although they don't mention the word 'Riserva'!

It was delicious, big powerful fruit balanced by strong alcohol and beautifully smooth tannins. Incredible length. But then, after our first glass, we consumed the rest with food and it was magnificent. I couldn't stop remarking at how the food kept refreshing the flavours. We waited three months for this wine to arrive from Italy and it was well worth it. When it finally arrived it was in bottles weighing 1.1 kg, even more empty than a normal bottle of wine when full! So the Ercolino brothers really value this wine to spend so much on the bottle! We only have a very limited amount available.

Eral Bravo YBS 2007 75cl

14.5%abv. This 2007 won Argentine Wine Awards Gold Medal and Decanter Bronze Medal, 2005 was awarded IWC 2007 - Gold Medal, Wines of Argentina 2007 - Gold Medal, Hyatt Best Wines - Gold Medal. What a wine for showcasing what Argentina can produce. YBS stands for Year's Barrel Selection, and is the personal selection of winery owner Matias Sanchez. It's a blend of the year's best three barrels, 60% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah, blended to perfection then barrel aged. The wine is big and powerful, wonderfully smooth, well balanced with a really long lingering finish. It's gaining a reputation in the Uk and demand is soon likely to outstrip supply.

Sutil Acrux 2005 75cl

IWC Gold Medal 2007 IWC Bronze 2008.

14% abv. Delicious wine. Very prominent nose with good fruit. Deep purple colour. Wonderful fruit on the palate and very smooth. Supremely well balanced tannins and alcohol, producing a wine to be savoured. A superb example of Chile's rejuvenated wine industry. Finally South America is beginning to shrug off it's image created by the cheap brands and supermarket wines, and is showing that it can compete seriously with the rest of the wine world on quality.

You can buy this same wine from Corks Out for £20.39
