John's Recommended Wines Here we're listing a selection of 'bin end' wines. They're good wines but for one reason or another we're delisting most of them. Possibly we can't get any more stock or possibly we've replaced them with another similar wine. Either way we're happy to sell them off at a seriously good discount - quite possibly below cost - to make some space, and of course to keep our bargain hunting customers happy.

We're also including a small selection of seriously good value wines which we keep in stock permanently, purely because they are fantastic wines for the price. If you want some great wine for every day drinking without breaking the bank these are the ones to go for.

Le Malbec 2009 75cl

We're massive fans of Argentine Malbec so we couldn't resist trying this one from the Languedoc as it is being imported by an Argentine wine company! They discovered this wine made by Boris Kovac in the Minervois, and were so impressed they decided to import it to show both the differences and similarities achieved for Malbec in the different climates. Normally Boris uses his Malbec in blends so a new label was produced - hence the somewhat Latin presentation, and the amusing name!

The wine itself is surprisingly good! Deep purple in colour. It's a rich, smooth wine, full in the mouth and packed with ripe fruit flavours. Not a big hitter like the powerful Malbecs of Mendoza, more of an every day glugging wine - but a very good one! Very enjoyable with food, or equally lovely on it's own on a sunny afternoon.

Aresti Estates Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 75cl

Previous vintages were awarded 88 Points Wine Spectator for 07, IWC Silver and Decanter Bronze for the 05.

This is a great limited production wine from the Curico Valley. Selected vines were hand harvested with gentle destemming by hand. 20% of the grapes were fermented in French oak. The resulting wine is superb, really showcasing Chile's value for money. I was very impressed with the quality, even more so when I found out the price. Being a hand made, limited production wine it's also very low in free sulphur. It's deep ruby red, hinting at at what's to come! A strong nose with fruit, eucalyptus and a little spice. On the palate it has rich fruit flavours with a full mouthfeel and good body. Very very smooth with a long lingering finish. A great example of Cab Sauv at a super price. Beautiful on it's own, even better with food.

Aresti Estate Selection Chardonnay 2010 75cl

Hand harvested grapes from two of Aresti's vineyards, again cold fermented to retain freshness and flavour. A portion of the blend was then aged in oak. Good wine.

Please note the current batch of this wine is bottled in tall slim bottles as with the Sauvignon Blanc below, not in the Burgundy shape as displayed here.

Aresti Estate Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2009 75cl

Hand harvested grapes cold fermented to retain freshness and flavour. A fresh and fruity Sauvignon, very easy drinking. Not as sharp and acidic as many, more rounded and enjoyable on it's own, not requiring food to balance the acidity. Good wine at this price.

El Coto Rioja Rosado 2007 75cl
Jane just tried this wine again this week and had a very mild reaction to the sulphites, so if you're sulphite sensitive I suggest giving it a miss. She also said how much she enjoyed though. Good fruit with a nice dry finish.

Moncaro Rosaspina Marche IGT Rosato 75cl
12.5% abv. A pleasant, easy drinking fruity rose ideal for a sunny afternoon. Plenty of fruit with a dry finish. It's a simple straight forward quaffing wine, but very enjoyable. Jane had a very mild reaction to the sulphites so if you react to sulphites it's probably best to give it a miss. I however thoroughly enjoyed it with no adverse affects.
